Top 10 Words to Know When Building a Cedarglen Home

Familiarize Yourself with Our Most Common Terminology

Building a new home is an exciting milestone, but it can be a lot easier and less stressful when you have a better understanding of the whole process. The following glossary lists some of the common construction terms you may come across when building with Cedarglen Homes.

Architectural Approval is when the community developer reviews and approves the model elevation, exterior colours and materials, and grading to ensure it meets the community architectural guidelines.

Change Order (Schedule A) is an itemized selection of options and structural changes made from the standard plan. All change orders must either be accepted or rejected and signed by the homeowner, and this document forms a part of the purchase agreement. It is important to note that change orders are only accepted up until a certain point in the homebuilding journey, so be sure to check with a Cedarglen Representative on when changes can be accepted.

Conventional Lot is when the home is built on the centre of the lot with an equal amount of space on each side of the house (thus creating two side yards). To learn more about choosing the right lot, click HERE.

Customer Relations Representative (CRR) is the homebuyer’s main point of contact from firm sale right through to the possession day. This knowledgeable representative will guide the homebuyer through the administrative process and will help address any issues that might arise throughout the build.

Customer Response Team is the main point of contact for any issues that might arise once the homebuyer has taken possession of their new home moving forward. This team will address any warranty-related issues and will assist in scheduling appointments with suppliers if necessary.

Elevation is the exterior design of a new home (this includes colors, materials used, etc.). To learn more about home elevations, read our blog post that explains the different styles you will come across. 

Enhanced Specifications (Schedule B) are an additional set of specifications over and above the essential specifications that are included in the home. These will vary by community and phase.

Essential Specifications are Cedarglen Homes’ superior standard specifications that are included in every home. Single Side Yard (SSY) (also known as Zero Lot Line or ZLL), is when one side of the home is built on the property line and the other side of the home is setback five feet from the property line. Site Supervisor is the Cedarglen Homes representative who is responsible for scheduling trades and the installation of materials for your home. This individual will educate you on the functions of your new home, and they will act as your main point of contact for any on-site questions.
