Spring Cleaning with Cedarglen

Despite the intermittent snowfalls we are getting, spring is officially here in Calgary and that means we are nearing the time of year to get our spring cleaning done. In past years it has been easy to get a way with the excuse of having no time to get it done. However, with the recently mandated self-isolation that is in place, you have nothing but time on your hands as you are cooped up at home. While it can be difficult to even know where to begin, we figured we’d help gather some tips and tricks to get you started!

To fully get the most value out of spring cleaning, we recommend breaking it into two main parts. Part one involves organizing all your personal belongings and ridding yourself of items that you no longer use. We like to draw inspiration from the popular KonMari Method and her 6 basic rules of tidying.

  1. Commit yourself to tidying up
  2. Imagine your ideal lifestyle
  3. Finish discarding first
  4. Tidy by category, not by location
  5. Follow the right order
  6. Ask yourself if it sparks joy.

Part two of spring cleaning involves deep cleaning your home – not just half-heartedly wiping down surfaces and running the vacuum around the house. Dedicate this time at home to thoroughly cleaning the areas of your home that are often overlooked (say hello to the tops of your kitchen cabinets and the family of dust bunnies that have taken up residence). If you are at a complete loss of where to start, check out this Calgary based cleaning company’s #CleaningArmy Handbook that gives you a complete rundown on how to clean each room in your home and the products they recommend. For just $13.99 you can support a local business and gain a valuable resource for life.

With the recent spread of Covid-19 across the globe, it is more important than ever to understand what cleaning practices are required to adequately disinfest your home and protect against the spread of Covid-19. The Centre for Disease Control has created a guide to ensure you are cleaning as thoroughly as possible. Some of the key tips from this guide are as follows, but to read the complete guide – click HERE.

  • Wear disposable gloves when cleaning
  • Use soap and warm water to wipe down commonly touched surfaces, then follow with a disinfectant.
  • Launder clothes, towels, linen etc. as often as possible using the warmest appropriate water setting.

Now that you are slightly better equipped to begin your own spring cleaning, we wanted to take this opportunity to share how we keep homes clean on our end. Cedarglen Homes is proud to have our own in-house clean team that tackles not only our showhomes, but all the homes that we build. This incredible group of ladies hits each home FIVE times throughout the build process as they complete a paint clean, carpet clean, pre-occupancy clean, home orientation clean, and then one more time right before the homeowners take possession! During this uncertain time, we are happy to offer peace of mind to all homebuyers in knowing that they are moving into a beautiful new home that they can truly start fresh in. Moreover, we can confidently say that any prospects looking to buy a new home can rest assured knowing that all our showhomes and sales centres are disinfected on a regular basis by our clean team and staff. Since the onset of Covid-19 in our city, we have also increased our cleaning practices to include further disinfecting high-touch surfaces on a more regular basis through the combined effort of our clean team and our sales team.
