5 Packages to Choose From When Building a High Performance Home

At Cedarglen Homes, we offer our homebuyers the opportunity to personalize their new homes to suit their growing needs and lifestyle. One of the ways we do this is with our new Net Zero Inspired program in which homebuyers can choose their level of investment in making their new home Net Zero certified. Within this program we offer 5 distinct packages that homebuyers can choose from, as identified below.

Net Zero Inspired

Net Zero Inspired is the most critical step towards building a fully certified Net Zero home as it focuses on core performance features that are not easily seen at first glance. If a homebuyer would like to make their home Net Zero certified in the future, choosing this package up front will allow them to avoid costly renovations down the road, while creating a home that is energy efficient. By investing in Net Zero Inspired you will receive all the features included with our Essential Specifications in addition to the below features:

  • 2.5" of Spray foam insulation under the basement slab
  • Rigid XPS exterior insulation around the foundation
  • R24 Batt Insulation from the standard R20 throughout the home
  • 2" of continuous mineral fibre exterior insulation on exterior walls
  • R-60 Insulation in the attic
  • A guaranteed ACH of 1.0
  • Solar panel ready wiring

Net Zero Inspired+

If you are looking to advance further in your Net Zero journey, then you can select our Net Zero Inspired+ package. This option includes everything noted above in the Net Zero Inspired package, with the addition of ten installed solar panels. While these solar panels are not enough to fully offset your homes energy consumption, it is a great start on the path to creating renewable energy.

Net Zero Ready

The Net Zero Ready package includes all the features noted at the Net Zero Inspired level, while incorporating additional enhancements to the mechanical systems of the home. Gas appliances such as the natural gas furnace and tankless water heater are now replaced with electric appliances such as an air source heat pump and a hybrid water heating unit. Since the entire home will operate on electric appliances, homeowners would no longer have to pay carbon taxes as they are not directly responsible for burning fossil fuels to power their new home.

The Net Zero Ready package includes the additional options:

  • 2.5" of Spray foam insulation under the basement slab
  • Rigid XPS exterior insulation around the foundation
  • R24 Batt Insulation from the standard R20 throughout the home
  • 2" of continuous mineral fibre exterior insulation on exterior walls
  • R-60 Insulation in the attic
  • A guaranteed ACH of 1.0
  • Solar panel ready wiring
  • Hybrid Water Heater
  • Heat Pump

Net Zero Ready+

For those who wish to go one step further, our Net Zero Ready+ package might be the right investment for you. Along with all the additional mechanical that is found in the Net Zero Ready package above, this package includes the addition of ten installed solar panels.

Net Zero Certified

A fully certified Net Zero home is defined as a home that generates as much renewable energy as it consumes on an annual basis. This is achieved when homebuyers select our Net Zero Certified package which includes everything found in our Net Zero Ready package, with the addition of enough solar panels to power your entire home. With this upfront investment, homebuyers will save on their monthly energy bills which will lead to greater savings than the initial investment.

Net Zero Homes produce as much clean energy as they consume. They are up to 80% more energy efficient than typical new homes and use renewable energy systems to produce the remaining energy they need. Every part of the house works simultaneously to provide consistent temperatures throughout, prevent air drafts, and filter indoor air to reduce dust and allergens - therefore promoting a healthy and comfortable lifestyle. Ultimately, by choosing to build a Net Zero Home you are doing your part to reduce your environmental footprint and work towards building a greener future.
